    Targeted Carbs

I ran Keto for the past year and a few months, lost a bunch of weight , recently I've fluctuated between low carb\keto..I've added back weight lifting, SS compound lifts, the last couple months. I decided to test Targeting some simple carbs, Dextrose, before my workout. I had one of my best workouts to date... I plan to Target carbs before my workouts and see how it goes....

Try before and after, think you'll benefit more from simple carbs during both of those times. I would add in some complex with your other meal...low carb style and as you progress start adding more and more back in. You'll be much happier with your progress and how you feel overall.

I'm looking to maintain what muscle I have, gain strength, and shed fat. Develop a good base to add some lean muscle. I'm on prescribed TRT, that I plan to adjust as needed moving forward ...What do you think? Thanks!

I would be adding like stated above (slowly) for a recomp which is what your going for. Don’t let the scale dictate progress though. Take pics and compare every 2 wks to see what’s happening.

I hear you on the scale, I don't do well with it, and basically did without out it losing a bunch of weight. I'll look at adding some carbs back slowly. I appreciate it Thanks!

Personally I don't think dextrose is a good source of carbs. Tho I have heard its ok for post workout. I also target my carbs around my workout, about 75 ****s 1.5-2 hours preworkout, about 25-45 ****s during workout(.karbolyn). And 25-50****s post. If the dextrose is working and that's what you like fine. But I think you would be better off with a higher quality and a moderate insulin spike pre and intra.

I'm trying Dextrose because from my reading if your targeting your carbs before workout you want the carbs (dextrose ) to enter quickly for your workout, provide your energy during workout and get used up, then switch back over to a state of Ketosis. On the other hand, my understanding is if you use more complex carbs they tend to take longer to process and be used up therefore can keep you out of ketosis for a longer period...

I appreciate your input on this, Are you using a Keto way of eating?

Ive done Keto to lose some weight,it was very effective. But I found myself struggling in the gym, especially in the lower rep ranges my strength was just nose diving. So I moderate my carbs based on my goals. At the moment I am on a size gain cycle and my carbs are between 150-300. Depending on the bodyparts I am training. On off days my carbs are lower than 100.

Nice man! When you added some carbs back in after being Keto did your strength change immediately?

Absolutely, stronger and just felt better. I am a big fan of pre and intra carbs really seems to make a difference especially towards the end of my workout. I really liked vitargo for intra carbs but the stuff mixes very poorly and is expensive. So I found karbolyn to mix very well and is considerably cheaper.

I think people are affriad of carbs. They think carbs make them fat and bloated...lol what they fail to realize is that carbs help with getting nutrients to the muscles and help them recover not to mention gives them energy to push themselves in the gym to achieve hypertrophy

Maybe the *****, or some people may feel food gets it done for them. Me I feel the difference intras make and consider them worth it. I only use a few muscle building supplements, protein powder, intra carbs, and bcaas. What brand intra carb do you use?

Their designed to get the job done, the carbs (the good product's, & some don't have much carbs ) but are related toe GET (gastric emptying time) & to deliver this bcaa's /
And should be (better than bcaa is EAA's ) or both with the EAA's comprising at least two thirds, & bcaa 1/3 Rd added creatine, Citra malate (now we're talking )

I'm a big believer too.., but you still have to maintain a good 'Insulin-Drive" with proper/and adequate foods the rest of the time.

The above topic is centered "just" around training (during, in the case of "Intra" obviously ) but many do pre- & then lost too... Post I think is important, but like right when your done training, during the ride home /work

Then eat a square an hour & a half later.

Love Intras, use Neadows' Intra MD now with added shit too, or double scoop the grape..!

***I've noticed a difference in the profile of the two , one is a bigger container and the couple others I have left are half that size , need to look.. but both I think have been discontinued..? One may "not" have the Gycerrol Monostearate...?! Need to look when home.
Don't ask the Question, If your 'NOT ' prepared to
    Hear the answer.......!,

    I "Don't" sugar coat shit....!
    I'm 'not' Willy Wonka....!

Meadows makes some really good supplements no doubt. But my budget forces me to make hard choices and his stuff is a little to pricey for me lol. I mainly try to keep my carbs low so my insulin sensitivity will be high. Not to mention ive noticed that when I consume carbs frequently late in the day I tend to get fat lol.

I like using something like carbolean or a 50/50 ratio of dextrose and maltodextrin with my protein shake along with 1cup oatmeal and 1cup blueberries about an hour before the gym, then another carbolean/protein shake directly after working out, then eat lunch about 30-60mins after that. I feel this gives me a good balance of fast and slow carbs. Seems to be working for me anyway
